Lipa City, Batangas – Members of the Press Corps in Calabarzon region participated in the first Regional Development Council (RDC) IV-A Press Conference. The press conference held on 11 June 2015, right after the RDC IV-A Full Council meeting, aims to disseminate the development priorities of the region.
Various issues in the region were clarified during the presscon by the panellists. On the incidence of poverty despite the robust economic growth, the press were informed of the Accelerated and Sustainable Anti-Poverty (ASAP) Program to alleviate poverty in the region.
On the readiness of Calabarzon for the K-12 program, construction of school buildings are on-going to accommodate senior high school enrolees.
On collecting school fees, the DepEd reiterated that mandatory school collections are prohibited and only the Parents-Teachers Association is allowed to collect and manage fees.
On environmental concerns, the DENR ensured that the guidelines on cutting down of trees due to road widening projects are enforced as well as the issuance of Environment Compliance Certificate for projects affecting the river systems. In addition, the DENR requested the assistance of the private sector to inform them on violations of establishments and manufacturing firms to environmental laws.
Meanwhile, the BSP gave tips to identify counterfeit bills. The BSP Manager said that a genuine bill is rough in texture and that letters are embossed.
On the updates on the RDC’s nominations for Chairperson and Co-Chairperson, the panel informed the press that the remaining term of office for the Chairperson and Co-Chairperson is less than a year. Hence, the RDC will just wait for the next term.

Hernandez of DOLE Region IV-A, Private Sector Representatives Mr. Eduardo Nicolas III and Ms. Josephine Parilla.
PIA Region IV-A OIC-Director Carlo P. Gonzaga facilitated the conference. The press conference was held at the Department of Agriculture – Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center, Lipa City, Batangas.
