The Calabarzon Regional Development Council (RDC) conducted its Reorganizational and 3rd Quarter Full Council meeting last 1 September at Tandang Sora Hall, TESDA Women’s Center, Taguig City.
As part of the reorganization, the RDC elected the nominees for RDC Chairperson and Co-Chairperson namely: Gov. Hermilando I. Mandanas of Batangas and Gov. Jesus Crispin C. Remulla of Cavite from the public sector, and Mr. Richard Albert I. Osmond of the Philippine Industrial Estate Assn., Inc. and Engr. Ladislao L. Andal of Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Batangas Chapter from the private sector. The nominees will be endorsed to the Office of the President thru the NEDA Central Office. The 13 private sector representatives comprised of a labor sector, basic sector and 11 sectoral private sector representatives were confirmed.
During the Full Council meeting, the RDC approved the: 1) creation of a Technical Working Group (TWG) on Traffic Management and adoption of the recommendations on Traffic Management Study; 2) comprehensive drainage plan as one of the RDC’s banner projects; 3) support services for Calabarzon’s drug rehabilitation program; and 4) creation of a TWG on anti-illegal drugs campaign. In addition, the RDC endorsed the: 1) institutionalization of the senior high school Voucher Program to encourage private sector investment in basic education; 2) relaxing of Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) guidelines on SHS voucher payment; 3) night shift for specific sectors and non-minors in the dual training system; 4) the DILG Multi-Sectoral Advisory Committee; and 5) support to the continuous implementation of BUB.
The meeting was highlighted with the awarding of most competitive local government units (LGUs) in the region who topped the 2016 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI) Survey. Further, the RDC recognized the government agencies for their support to Calabarzon LGUs in the 2016 CMCI Survey.
The RDC conferred the Calabarzon Champion Award to Tanauan City Mustang 9 and Mustang 10 for bringing home the championship in the 2016 PONY International Asia Pacific Zone Baseball Tournament held last June in Singapore.
A press conference was held right after the RDC Full Council meeting. The discussions focused on the matters tackled in the meeting and the various initiatives and priorities of different agencies in line with the current administration. Regional Directors of NEDA Region IV-A, DA Region IV-A, DOLE Region IV-A, and DILG Region IV-A, representatives from LLDA, DepEd Region IV-A, and Engr. Ladislao Andal were the resource persons in the press conference.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority hosted the RDC meeting.
