Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin M. Andanar in his message during the third quarter 2017 Calabarzon Joint Regional Development Council (RDC) and Regional Peace and Order Council Meeting on 14 September at Summit Ridge Hotel, Tagaytay City said that his office established the Provincial Communication Officers Network or PCONet to serve as the basic instrument in information dissemination so that the government’s advocacy will reach the grassroots and the countryside.

The PCONet will bring vital information from the Malacañang Palace to the people and vice-versa and stop the proliferation of unverified and fake news. He said, “We need not only rely on tri-media and social media in disseminating information, but also local information officers have vital role to publicize government’s efforts in the development of the country to the people.”

He then requested the support of the local government units to the PCONet by designating public information officers in every city and municipality and strengthen public information network. Secretary Andanar was thankful to the Provinces of Batangas, Cavite and Laguna for being the model in terms of designating information officers.

PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar shares the Provincial Communication Officers Network Project during the Joint RDC-RPOC Meeting.

He also announced the conduct of the Information Convention for all information officers of the country to be held in February 2018 in Davao City to discuss capability building and showcase modern communication tools. RDC Chairperson Hermilando I. Mandanas responded that he will allow his information officers to participate in the convention.

The full implementation of the PCONet will empower people as well-informed citizens, Secretary Andanar concluded.
