The CALABARZON Regional Development Council (RDC) approved the use of the regional share in the Energy Regulation Fund 1-94 to fight COVID-19 during its second quarter meeting on June 11.
The Council also approved the allocation of the regional share among the five provinces of CALABARZON. Fifty percent will be equally divided among the five CALABARZON provinces, and the other half will be allocated based on the latest provincial Census population. As COVID-19 affects people through mostly human-to-human transmissions, highly populated provinces have higher risk.
NEDA Region IV-A Director and RDC Vice-Chairperson Luis G. Banua presented the eligible projects that can be funded, such as: a) mass testing; b) acquisition of personal protective equipment; c) feeding programs; d) lease of additional medical facilities; and e) electricity cost subsidies to newly constructed facilities for COVID-19.
As of June 18, the provinces of Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal have submitted complete documentary requirements to access the said funds, while Batangas and Quezon are in the process of completing the needed requirements.
