Calabarzon researchers once again showcased the findings of their research studies during the 4th Calabarzon Research and Statistics Forum held on 20 October 2016 at the Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite. Mayor Perfecto V. Fidel of Indang and newly elected Cavite State University President Dr. Hernando R. Robles welcomed more than 300 participants from the private and government research institutions.
CHED Commissioner Dr. Alex B. Brillantes Jr. in his keynote message highlighted the country’s performance in terms of researches compared with the ASEAN countries. He challenged the participants to innovate. As an industrial region, we need to be competitive.
Mr. Jack Lim, Senior Manager of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation of Malaysia presented the Big Data Analytics: Empowering Research and Development towards inclusive Digital Economy during the plenary session. He shared how Malaysia was able to improve its digital industry. RDC Vice Chairperson and NEDA OIC-Regional Director Luis G. Banua presented AmBisyon Natin 2040 or the long-term vision of the Filipinos and Mr. Benigno F. Perido of PSA Region IV-A presented the Performance of the Agriculture Sector and its contribution to Calabarzon’s Gross Regional Domestic Product.
Parallel Sessions on Agricultural Development, Environmental Protection and Information Technology were conducted. Each group featured nine oral presentations. Apart from the 27 oral presentations, there were 19 poster presentations.
The best oral presentation per group was announced towards the end of the forum. For Agricultural Development, Mr. Edgardo A. Gonzales of Cavite State University won for his presentation on Yield and Profitability of Selected Honeydew Cultivars Grown under Different Types of Trellis. Engr. Albertson D. Amante of Batangas State University was the best presenter in Information Technology with his paper entitled Network of Physicochemical Transducers and Unified Environmental Monitor for a Smarter Water Quality Assessment Aeration System. Mr. Marc Lester F. Quintana of Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo was best presenter in Environment Protection with his paper entitled Level of Awareness on the Implementation of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 of the Residents Around Bunot Lake. Ms. Kimberly Marasigan of Batangas State University garnered the award for the best poster on Online Facility Research Paper Submission and Review for Batangas State University. The winners received plaques and cash gifts sponsored by DOST Region IV-A.
In behalf of Charito C. Armonia of PSA Region IV-A, Cavite Provincial Statistics Officer Lucia Iraida A. Soneja gave the closing message thanking the government agencies and private institutions for the success of the activity.
The forum was a collective effort of the Regional Development Council-Regional Research Committee chaired by CHED Region IV-A Director Emmylou B. Yanga, CHED IV-A Research Council Incorporated – representing the private sector headed by Dr. Felix M. Mercado, and RDC Vice Chairperson and NEDA Region IV-A OIC-Director Luis G. Banua. The 4th Calabarzon Research and Statistics Forum is conducted in line with the celebration of the National Statistics Month.
