Tropical storm Gorio did not stop the conduct of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 Roadshow and the Unveiling of the Calabarzon Regional Development Plan on 28 July 2017 at the Batagas Provincial Capitol, Batangas City. With the theme “Tayo Nang Abutin Ang Ambisyon Natin”, the Roadshow featured different events which started with a parade at 7:00 AM joined by public schools in Batangas City, agencies, LGUs, the academe and CSOs followed by other activities such as the opening (plenary) programme, press conference, symposia on the PDP pillars, youth symposium and entertainment, and high-school poster making contest.
Free public services were conducted simultaneously by regional line agencies and the Batangas provincial government throughout the day. The Department of Health Region IV-A, Batangas Provincial Health Office and AFP Southern Luzon Command provided medical and dental services. Other agencies such as TESDA, Department of Justice, Public Attorney’s Office, Department of Labor and Employment, Batangas Province Provincial Employment Service, Philippine Statistics Authority, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine Information Agency, and the State Universities and Colleges in the region also provided their services and showcased their activities to the public.
Dr. Rosemarie G. Edillon, Undersecretary for Policy and Planning of the National Economic and Development Authority in her Keynote message, emphasized the important role of LGUs for the country to achieve inclusive growth, have a high-trust society, and a globally competitive knowledge economy. She pointed out how LGU projects can help regain people’s trust in public institutions, expand access to economic opportunities, enhance human capital development through quality healthcare and education, accelerate strategic infrastructure development, and ensure peace, order and a healthy environmental, among others.
RDC Officials, led by RDC Chairperson Governor Hermilando Mandanas, received the PDP during the turn-over ceremony. In return, Gov. Mandanas presented the Calabarzon Regional Development Plan to Usec. Edillon and Secretary Jose Maria Nicomemdes F. Hernandez, the Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog. The RDP is the region’s response to the challenges posed by the PDP. Sec. Hernandez for his part called for team work among agencies to achieve the goals and objectives of the PDP and Calabarzon RDP.
Dr. Hernani Perez of University of Batangas and Dr. Esmenia Javier of the Lyceum of the Philippines University were among those who gave their reflections on the PDP during the break-out sessions.
The National Economic and Development Authority Region IV-A spearheaded the conduct of the PDP 2017-2022 Calabarzon Roadshow in coordination with the Provincial Government of Batangas.
