RDC Calabarzon PSRs and Secretariat with Ms. Susan de Cardenas, CEO and President of the Society for Sustainable Tourism and Development, Mr. Randall Edwin Durband, CEO of Global Sustainable Tourism Council, NEDA Assistant Secretary for Regional Development Mercedita Sombilla, and NEDA MIMAROPA OIC-Regional Director Susan Sumbeling.

The 10th Regional Development Council (RDC)-Private Sector Representatives (PSRs) National Convention, with the theme, #ECOtOURism: Partnership for Sustainability was held on April 9-12, 2019 at City State Asturias Hotel, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. More than 150 PSRs and NEDA representatives attended the said convention including 14 delegates from the RDC Calabarzon.

RDC MIMAROPA Chairperson and Palawan Governor Jose CH. Alvarez, in his welcome message, acknowledged the active participation of PSRs and recognized their roles in socio-economic development. Further, he hoped that the convention will be a venue for collaboration among the regions and the results of the gathering can be used to contribute to the overall development of the country.

The topics discussed during the plenary sessions were sustainability in terms of economic, socio-cultural, environmental, tourism, and climate change. Breakout sessions into four thematic groups were conducted. The workshop aimed to harmonize Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Regional Development Plans (RDPs) indicators relative to sustainable tourism and identify tourism sustainability measures to be undertaken by both the private and public sectors. Outputs of the workshop were the list of priority tourism sustainability strategies (policy reforms, programs, projects, and activities), and list of tourism sustainability indicators based on harmonized SDG and RDP indicators to be endorsed to DOT and DENR.

Key issues and concerns discussed were the tracking of the status of RDC-PSRs National Convention resolutions and agreements, standardization of honoraria of PSRs, and the membership of Climate Change Commission to the RDC sectoral committees.

The PSR Convention is annually conducted to build stronger partnership between and among the RDC private sector representatives, government, and other stakeholders to achieve economic development. For 2020, the RDC Eastern Visayas will host the 11th PSR National Convention.
