The Calabarzon Regional Development Council (RDC) adopted the Manifesto of the 2018 Indigenous People’s (IP) Summit during the Second Quarter 2019 Regional Development Council Meeting held on June 20, 2019 at NEDA IV-A, Calamba City, Laguna. The move aims to solicit commitments of government agencies, private organizations and other stakeholders to empower indigenous people through: a) allocation of budget and implementation of programs based on needs; b) IP’s representation in the Sectoral Committee on Social Development/ Social Protection; and c) creation of an inter-agency committee that will advocate IP’s rights in socio-economic development.
The RDC supports mainstreaming of IP’s rights in the development process. In return, the IPs committed to: a) participate in socio-economic activities that will support and encourage the development of their communities; b) attend school and finish studies; c) convey the importance of health and sanitation; d) impart their knowledge and skills; and e) work to avoid mendicancy.
