The regional consultation on midterm updating of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 was successfully conducted in Calabarzon on July 12, 2019 at the NEDA Region IV-A, Barangay Milagrosa, Calamba City. Undersecretary Adoracion M. Navarro led the national planning committees in the regional consultation.
After two years of plan implementation, it is essential to review the strategies, policies, targets, programs and projects to ensure that these are still responsive to development issues and that benefits from the implementation of these will be substantial, inclusive and sustained.
Being the second largest regional economy and the industrial hub of the country, Calabarzon pushes for sustainable growth of the industry and services sectors while strengthening efforts in the agriculture and fisheries sector to further boost the economic growth of the region and the national economy. The region also focuses on wider coverage of social protection programs for the remaining Plan period. Critical in this is the collaborative effort among government agencies, private sector and civil society organizations to take advantage of development opportunities and address emerging issues. The region also supports enabling infrastructure facilities to spur economic activities.
A collaborative work of the National Economic and Development Authority Central Office and its Calabarzon Regional Office, the activity was attended by 163 officers and technical staff (74 males, 89 females) from regional line agencies, government owned and controlled corporations, local government units, and partners from the private sector. The planning committees and the regional participants conducted workshops to discuss the region’s contribution to the attainment of the PDP targets and to generate insights on regional concerns requiring actions at the national level.
