The Regional Project Monitoring Committee (RPMC) of the Regional Development Council Calabarzon conducted a problem-solving session (PSS) for the Calamba-Tagaytay Road on September 30 at the Mayor’s Conference Room, Calamba City Hall, Calamba City, Laguna. The project involves the widening of a 8.8 km national road and construction of a drainage system. The project was scheduled completion was in April 2018 but is currently suspended. The project was delayed due to bad weather conditions and the difficulty in securing the road-right-of-way.
The PSS was called to gather updates on the actions taken by the concerned stakeholders, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region IV-A and Calamba City Government on the agreements from the previous PSS.
During the session, the DPWH Region IV-A informed the RPMC that they are working on the areas with a target completion date of March 2020 and is processing the acquisition of claimants with land titles to facilitate project implementation. Mayor Justin Chipeco of Calamba City recommended that DPWH should prepare an alignment for a new road project passing through the Filinvest Property to serve as an alternate alignment for the Calamba-Tagaytay Road, as the existing RROW cannot be widened. In addition DPWH Region IV-A agreed to prepare an action plan on the workable areas and provide copies to the Secretariat and to draft a letter to the Calamba City Government seeking assistance in the negotiations with Filinvest Property on the proposed new road project and to report on the problematic areas of the Calamba-Tagaytay Road.
The RPMC will monitor the compliance to the agreements to ensure speedy implementation of the Calamba-Tagaytay Road project.
