On its fourth year of celebrating the National Women’s Month, the CALABARZON Regional Development Council conducted the Regional Women’s Month Celebration on March 5 at the University of Rizal System (URS), Morong, Rizal. The Celebration was spearheaded by the technical working group of the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC).

Speaking to over 600 participants, Department of Agrarian Reform Undersecretary Carim Panumpang highlighted the efforts of DAR in mainstreaming gender and development and ensuring the inclusion of rural women in its services. Among the initiatives conducted by DAR are: a) Gender Awareness Building Advocacy among Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs); b) ARB Development and Sustainability Program; and c) Microfinancing and Credit to Women ARBs and Farmers.

The program also included a 20-minute film showing on adolescent pregnancy from the Commission on Population. The film showing was a vital part of the program to increase awareness on the growing issue of adolescent pregnancy in the region. Other activities in the program were presentation from DAR on their achievements on GAD and cultural performances from the students of URS.

The participants were treated to various services offered by some agencies and civil society organizations. One of the most sought after services was the provision of free pneumonia vaccine of DOH Region IV-A. The participants were also able to enjoy the free service such as haircut, massage, manicure, and pedicure provided by TESDA Rizal.

Towards the end of the program, DAR Region IV-A Director Rene Colocar expressed his gratitude to the hosts and sponsors of the activity and to the RGADC in leading the preparations. He also invited the participants to join the singing of the song entitled, “Juana”, which was prepared by the Cavite State University.
