CALABARZON Regional Development Council (RDC) Chairperson and Batangas Governor Hermilando I. Mandanas encouraged RDC members to extend more effort to ensure funding for the implementation of programs, projects and activities (PPAs) that will contribute in reviving the economy and mitigate the losses brought by the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Taal Volcano eruption and series of typhoons.
On her report during the First Quarter 2021 RDC Full Council Meeting on March 11, RDC Secretary and NEDA Assistant Regional Director (ARD) Gina T. Gacusan explained that only 103 PPAs (PHP1.6B) out of 130 PPAs (PHP8.0B) of RDC-endorsed were funded in the 2021 budget. This only covers 49 percent of the 210 PPAs in the approved Regional Development Investment Program 2017-2022. “Pushing for more economic PPAs and lobbying for funding in the 2022 GAA to the Congress will help the RDC acquire appropriate funds and number of PPAs under the economic sector”, ARD Gacusan said.
Chairperson Mandanas encouraged the RDC members to refocus their PPAs in 2021 and further review the PPAs under the 2022 budget proposals in providing more meaningful impacts for economic recovery. He also recommended looking into the possibility of increasing the Investment Promotions Group (IPG) funds to help those who lost their jobs but looking for work, to assist in reviving micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and to implement other PPAs that will help revive the economy of the Region and of the country as a whole. New Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog Development, Secretary Casimiro M. Ynares, Jr., emphasized his support to the body in its efforts in mitigating the negative impacts of last year’s disaster events.
