Members of the Sectoral Committee on Social Development/Social Protection (SCSD/SP) during its Second Quarter Meeting on May 11, 2021 via Zoom.

With the growing cases of COVID-19 in CALABARZON, the CALABARZON Social Development/Social Protection Committee tackled employment compensation for COVID-19 affected workers during its second quarter Committee on May 11, 2021 via videoconference.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through the Employees’ Compensation Commission (ECC) declared COVID-19 as occupational and work-related diseases by virtue of DOLE-ECC Board Resolution No. 21-04-14 that covers both the private and public workers.

Atty. Jonathan T. Villasoto, ECC Deputy Executive Director, highlighted that the employment compensation is an additional benefit package provided to mandatory members of the SSS and GSIS who had work related sickness or injury. The employment compensation includes loss of income benefit, medical reimbursement benefit, and death or funeral benefits. The ECC is also an appeal body in case claims were denied by the SSS or GSIS.

The declaration by the ECC will greatly help ease the impacts of COVID-19 to those affected workers, not only on their recovery but also on financial losses.
