“If I am a gifted giver and server, I know I am still God’s work in progress.” – Ms. Adelina S. San Miguel, 2021 Outstanding Regional COVID-19 Volunteer – Individual Category.

The CALABARZON Regional Development Council (RDC), through the Search for Outstanding Volunteers – Regional Search Committee (SOV-RSC), conducted a virtual awarding ceremony on December 10 to recognize volunteers who continuously provide services and assistance to the government and their fellow citizens despite the community quarantine and health risks brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The awardees are the volunteers who qualified to the 2021 Search for Outstanding COVID-19 Volunteers (SOCV) as reviewed and evaluated by the SOV-RSC evaluators.

This year, the SOV-RSC received 34 nominees, of which, 27 were shortlisted and given due recognition. The Outstanding Regional COVID-19 Volunteer Award for the Individual and Organization Categories were presented to Ms. San Miguel and St. Thomas Academy Alumni Association, Inc., respectively.

Executive Director Donald James D. Gawe of the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) expressed his gratitude to the COVID-19 volunteers for serving as modern-day inspirational heroes during his keynote message. Dir. Gawe also highlighted the BalikaBayanihan Program as one of the collaborative efforts between the government, civil society organizations, and volunteers which aims to provide assistance to the repatriated overseas Filipinos who were displaced from work due to the pandemic.

The Committee also awarded certificates of appreciation to the Search evaluators composed of representatives from the Civil Service Commission Region IV, Philippine Information Agency Region IV-A, Department of the Interior and Local Government Region IV-A and the National Economic and Development Authority Region IV-A.

The SOCV was initiated by the PNVSCA as part of Presidential Proclamation No. 55, series of 1998 declaring December as the National Volunteers Month.
