The members of the Special Committee on Strengthening Academe-Industry Linkage during its First Semester 2022 Meeting on April 22, 2022 via Zoom video conference.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Human Resources Development Foundation (PCCI-HRDF) shared their initiatives on the Education Task Force (ETF) and CALABARZON Convergence during the CALABARZON Special Committee on Strengthening Academe-Industry Linkage (SCSA-IL) First Semester 2022 Meeting on April 22, 2022 via Zoom video conference.

Dr. Alberto P. Fenix, Jr., the President of the PCCI-HRDF, shared that PCCI-HRDF convened the ETF to come up with a paper to provide policy reforms to address the gaps in the country’s education and training system. The policy paper aims to review, assess, and evaluate the current situation of the education sector and provide recommendations to produce graduates that are qualified for gainful employment or self-employment. He also shared that it will be presented to the next administration and its legislative branch. The ETF is in its last phase of writing the paper and the target completion is in May of the current year.

Moreover, Fr. Jun Inocencio of the PCCI shared their initiative on the CALABARZON Convergence which aimed to localize the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF). The Convergence, in consultation with the industry partner association, prepared comments and recommendations on the implementation of the PQF. As part of their next steps, they will present their comments and recommendations to the Regional Development Council for reference in the policy formulation and standard-setting in selected sectors such as automotive and construction, among others.

The SCSA-lL also discussed the following agenda items: a) 2020-2021 SCSA-IL Accomplishments Report; b) 2022 SCSA-IL Work Program; c) Guidelines and Circulars on the On-the-Job Trainings and Work Immersion; d) Assistance to Higher Education Institutions; and e) Updates on the Action Plan of the Master Trainers.
